Claiming Power: Stories of Rural Communities and Clean Energy
October 2022
Renewable energy projects have the potential to bring economic opportunity and resiliency to rural Washington, yet they also come with difficult trade-offs and potential impacts on natural resources and Tribal lands. Rural communities could possibly reap the benefits of the transition with energy independence, jobs, and tax revenue, but at what cost? What does a rapid transition to clean energy mean for Northwest rural communities?
The Claiming Power project consists of short videos that aim to share stories of rural communities navigating these challenging questions across the state. Featuring people who have engaged in the energy transition on their own terms will help build a new story: one that gives viewers a chance to picture themselves claiming power through a transition to clean energy that they define.
